I’m really looking forward to your mysteries and sci-fi series! Have you read any of the English author Marjorie Aillinghsm’s mysteries?

And yes, I’ve had many journeys at my age that did not end up the way I thought they would! One of the most difficult was not being able to continue with my passion of drawing and painting because of illness. My EyeBrain changed and what looked like a promising “career” was not. But I learned so much more about myself and grief and especially the comfort of my Savior! I wouldn’t have made that choice without the failure!

Thanks for sharing, Barbara!

No, I am not familiar with Marjorie Allingham. I'm more familiar with Dorothy Sayers, Alexander McCall Smith, Patricia Sprinkle, and Laura Child. What do you like most about Allingham's stories?

I'm sorry for your loss of painting and drawing. Can you ever dabble in those arts or do you now enjoy other creative pursuits? I'm glad that God's given you a Providential lens through which to process what happened. His ways are perfect and He's a Good Shepherd.

I think where I've most seen His hand at work (regarding an unintended direction in my life) is in the story of how He brought my husband and me together. I'm planning to share that story, Don't Settle for a Fairy Tale, for free on this platform at a future date (after we get through my sci-fi and mystery). However, if you're curious and would like to see the book trailer or read ahead, it's available at www.katherineladnymitchell.com as well as on Amazon.

Thanks again for reading!

I haven’t been lucky enough to fail yet! My journey back to writing began late 2019 and here I am now with Substack that is a great commitment I’m keeping. Things have gotten better and I’m excited for what’s to come.

I have mainly fresh baked posts so it’s a bit of work but I like it. Crossing my fingers I can maintain momentum and slowly grow.

If you've been writing since 2019 and still enjoy it, it sounds like you've got a great writing routine already! Congrats! I feel like that's half the battle right there.

Also, I think the best writing advice I ever got was from an author who'd published at least six books and had NINE kids. I asked her how she found the time to write, and she said that she tried to write a paragraph a day. No matter how the day went, she could usually get in a paragraph and that helped keep her thoughts fresh. She could then develop plots while she cooked or did dishes. That advice has really helped me.

What are your main writing goals now that you've been writing for a couple years? Are you seeking to publish a collection of your pieces or keeping focused on the newsletter format for now?

I wish I had time for more! It’s still a learning process and I’m taking a lot in. Some write daily but I don’t do that. I pivoted into creative writing after keeping a weekly journal that was about 1k words. Since I have a lot on my plate sometimes, I just more sprints. I might get in 800 words in a session. For me, it’s great. Less pressure.

I love the newsletter format, but I want to eventually have a book of short stories or poetry. I was recently published for the first time by Bag of Bones Press, so baby steps. I intend to get there.
