A friend of mine told me about it generally, then specifically about The Novellist. So that's how I found it—that, and I'd been looking to get into the newsletter format because I hadn't tried it. I wouldn't say I'm a convert 😄 because I still use a lot of other outlets, but so far I really like the ease of use, the positive spirit of the Substack staff, and that, well, the site looks good. A lot of sites look kind of junky.

Question: what other outlets have been successful for you? I have been trying to connect with groups in my target audience mostly through social media, but have you gained beneficial exposure through any other format in particular?

I still need to look into book funnel and story origin ...

'Successful' may be a generous term 😄 but I am pretty active on Ello still, and I use a site called World Anvil as a database for all the world-build-y things. (I'm an sf writer.) I also publish through Tablo, which puts you in all sorts of bookstores (something like 40k), but I don't see a lot of sales from anywhere but Amazon. Inkshares looks kind of neat, but I haven't really done anything there yet. Folks love Wattpad, but I've had little luck with it and don't like the interface.

Wow. The internet is so big. I have only heard of Amazon and Wattpad.😏

There was a neat little site that was around for a few years called JukePop that would just straight up buy the first chapter of your serial. And then you could monetize subsequent installments in a fashion similar to Substack. But it went under pretty quickly. Poor adoption is my guess. Still. Was neat.
